Tomorrow begins the Layout Challenge!

So tomorrow is January 1, 2010, and I am so looking forward to starting my challenge for 150 layouts! Unfortunately, I won't be able to post until probably the 20th, as I'm away on a road trip (read: travelling gong show) from Houston, TX, to Okotoks, AB. So don't give up on me, I do intend on posting some artwork as soon as I unpack and scrap it! Have fun!

Just in time for 2010 - National Papercrafting Month!

Start your new year off with a bang, with a fabulous exclusive papercrafting kit from Close to My Heart. It's called Felicity, (which means great happiness or bliss, which can definitely come from scrapbooking...), and it's gorgeous. I got mine in the mail today, and I can't wait to use it. With 6 die cut pages, 12 B&T Duos and a D-size stamp set, the possibilities are endless. But how can I get it, you may be wondering....

There are three ways to get this fantastic kit:

- Purchase it for $40.95
- Purchase $70 in stamp sets and receive it for free
- Place an order of $145 or more and receive it (and the stamp of the month) for free

If you've ever been interested in hosting a home gathering, you can also get this kit as a hostess with sales of $470 or more.

Start the new year in a state of happiness, with the Felicity papercrafting kit!

2010 Layout Challenge

Who else has tons and tons of scrapbook supplies, ideas that keep you awake in the middle of the night, and thousands of jpeg photos? I know I do, and so I've decided to challenge myself in 2010. I have made a goal of completing 150 layouts throughout the year (yes, 150, it works out to be about three a week), and posting them here on my blog complete with photos, journaling and the materials used. Possible even the story around the layout. I challenge you to do the same, to try new products, styles and expand your creativity. Check out the list on the sidebar of other scrappers who are participating in this challenge. If you'd like to join us, please email me, and I'll add your blog to my list of links. This is going to be a wonderful way to use our supplies, find inspiration in each other's art, and most importantly, get something done for ourselves! So have fun, I look forward to seeing what we can come up with!

Mojo Monday #116 & Color Me Monday Picks

So as you may have noticed, I've started entering some contests with my artwork. Here's the latest one, a card sketch from Mojo Monday. I created it using Jeanette Lynton's Color Me Monday color choices for this week. I used some scraps from my scrap bin, and also the Snow Friends (D1244) stamp set. The paper scraps are from Perfect Day and Notebook, the reverse sides of the paper ( I love how the back side of the B&T Duos are monochromatic patterns, makes them very versatile...). If you have a card or layout from the same contests/challenges, feel free to post them in the comments. Thanks!

My Minds Eye Blog Challenge #6

So I've always wanted to try some blog challenges from my favorite paper companies, and My Minds Eye is at the top of the list. The challenge was to create paper flowers from MME paper and do a layout based on their sketch. So here's my attempt:

I used the die-cuts from Just Dreamy 2 as a base for the bigger flowers, and then wound 1/4" strips of paper around a pencil to create the centers, finishing it with a button. I really like how the bottom left one turned out, you can see the word 'princess' on the side of it. The flowers that aren't die-cuts I cut out of some of the paper from that line that is just amazing. I love it all! Check out the My Mind's Eye blog for more inspiration!

November Deals!

I know it's late in the month, but CTMH has a fantastic deal this month: Stampaganza!! Buy two stamp sets and receive the third one free! I will be ordering again at the end of the month, so if any catch your eye, let me know!

Shrek Pasta

So I had a bag of Avocados in the pantry, that needed to be used, and I came across this super yummy pasta recipe:

1 lb chicken breast, diced
1 tsp olive oil
2 avocados, mashed
500 ml whipping cream
2 cups grated cheese
1/4 cup pine nuts
1 box fettucine

It's really simple, just brown the chicken in the oil, adding the nuts halfway through.
Mix the cream, cheese and avocados, and add to the chicken. Let it simmer until your pasta is ready, and voila! Shrek Pasta!

For a low fat option, I made a cream sauce (using a roux with flour and butter) with 2% milk and also I added fresh cilantro and basil and some roasted garlic from Epicure. It was so good, you have to try it!

Top Ten Reasons to Scrapbook

Here's a very late Top Ten (I'm sorry - summer kinda got in the way...):

1. To preserve your memories: and the story that goes along with it.
2. To have a creative outlet: Sometimes you just need something to do!
3. For fun: what can I say, it explains itself...
4. To create personal gifts: Nothing says your feelings about someone more than something handmade from the heart.
5. Because you take so many pictures: In the digital age, there are lots of occasions to use a camera. Why not remember them?
6. It will be a legacy for your family: Have you ever looked at your grandparents photos, and wondered the story behind them, or wanted to see their handwriting?
7. It's a great way to meet people: There are lots of ladies, right in our own community, who love to scrapbook.
8. How about a little extra money?: CTMH consultant program is one of the best direct sales companies in North America, with our consultants earning 22% instant comission.
9. Did someone say embellishments?: You can turn the most basic and simple pages into fantastic works of art with the addition of embellishments, like flowers, brads, glitter and more.
10. Opportunities for relaxation: Like the upcoming Scrapper's Staycation, in Okotoks. Join us for a full weekend of scrapping fun, right here in our backyard!

Everyday Celebration Card Kit

This is a fantastic promo from Close to My Heart. From now until September 30, purchase $75 in stamp sets and you can earn this beautiful kit for free. Or, host a gathering with minimum $500 in sales, and you can get it for free too! If you like, you can also purchase this outright for $49.95, either by calling me, or by visiting my website. It includes exclusive patterned papers, an exclusive stamp set and a set of die cut card bases, as well as embellishments and complete instructions. I took a couple hours last night and created these cards, it was so easy! I followed the directions for the cutting, and made 16 cards in about three hours. Now I have 16 all occasion cards in my stash, perfect for those last minute events.

CTMH Product Spotlight: Flip Flaps

Have you seen these new doodads? They are great for adding little mini albums to your pages, with no effort at all. Designed to fit 4x6 photos, they are adhesive so that you can layer them. I really love this Fancy Pants paper, but I had 6 photos, and only one sheet of the paper. So voila, Flip Flaps! I also put Liquid Glass and Glitter on the main snowflake to make it stand out.

New Artwork!

Hey, how are ya today? I finally got some me-scrap time in, and so here's a peek at what I created. Enjoy!

Fancy Pants everything (can you tell I love it?), and I used my Cricut and Alphalicious cartridge to do the title.

October Afternoon (I really liked the paper with the writing on it, I think it looks really cool). The letters are from Making Memories.

My Minds Eye papers and embellishments. I tied the tags on with CTMH Hemp and eyelets. I also used my cool Quickutz Squeeze tool for the Peek A Boo.

Fancy Pants (again...) This paper with the fish on it worked out really good. I also used matching fish brads for the dots on the I's.

This layout was done with the help of Jeanette Lynton's book Reflections. I found it really easy to use the two patterned papers with her directions.

My First Blog Award!

[lovely_blog_award.jpg]

I feel so honored!  I have received my first blog award from Sheila.  Thank you so much!

I have had a blast looking at different blogs this morning, and I want to pass this honor along to those who put the time and effort into their creativity, and also to those who blog about their life and how it relates to scrapbooking.  It's really cool to get to know the blogger through their art.  The rules for this award are pretty simple:

1. Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and their blog link.

2. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you've newly discovered.

3. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

So here's my list: ( I don't have 15, but this is a start!)

Give these girls a gander (hey, look at me rhyme!) and check out some amazing art!

Top Ten

This weeks Top Ten is brought to you by Close To My Heart!

My Top Ten CTMH Products:

1. Liquid Glass: This is an amazing adhesive.  It dries clear, and can be used on anything or for anything.  Like adding glitter, flocking, highlighting something in a title, the possibilities are endless!
2. Ink: I love this ink.  It comes in 60 colors, that perfectly co-ordinate with all of the papers and embellishments that CTMH has.
3. Dimensional Elements: Can you say chipboard?  I love all the different ones you can get, from alphabets to monograms to the new borders.
4. Level 2 Paper Packs: I am a paper addict. I love it, and when it comes with 12 sheets of double sided paper, and 10 sheets of matching cardstock, I love it even more.  My favorite:  Emporium.  Lovely blues and greens with a bohemian flair.
5. Buttons: Buttons are great little embellishments that can really make your layout or card pop.  And when they come in color coordinated packs of 100, including clear ones, it's even better.
6. Brads, brads and more brads: Bitty brads, regular brads, bigger brads, pewter decorative brads (that coincidentally match the Emporium paper...), corduroy brads, square brads...I could go on for hours....
7. Ribbon: I love adding a little bit of ribbon to my projects.  The texture, whether it's ricrac or organza or grosgrain, is awesome.
8. Stamps: What can I say about stamps?  They are fantastic.  The CTMH stamps are clear, so that you only have one set of blocks, and you stick the stamp to the block, stamp your image, clean it and put it back.  They are also great for layering different colors, because you can see exactly where you are stamping.
9. The 'How-To' books: A recipe for scrapbooking! These books (there are 5 different ones) make scrapbooking way easier.  They tell you what papers you need, how to cut them, where to glue them and when to embellish.
10. New products every four months: I love how they release new stuff every four months.  It keeps it fresh and in the loop with current trends.

Stay tuned for the next edition!

This weeks Top Ten is brought to you by the letter 'H'!

Top ten reasons I love being on Holidays:

1. I get to sleep in: That's self explanatory....

2. All day doing nothing: Isn't it lovely to have no schedule?

3. There's no clock: Well, there is one, but all the numbers are at the bottom and it says "whatever".

4. Unlimited play time with my kids: I love being able to play with them and do whatever they want to do. This week James is catching bugs.

5. Eating: mmmm, all the great food, and cookies for breakfast!

6. Campfires: It's so relaxing to sit by a campfire, and stare into the coals and say nothing.

7. Scrapbook Stores: I love going to scrapbook stores in other places, to see what they've got. We went to Scrappy-Do's in Invermere yesterday. It's tiny but it's got some cool stuff. I picked up some Piggy Tales paper, which is really hard to find in Calgary.

8. My husband lets his beard grow: He looks so rustic, I love it!

9. No phone calls: There's a phone here, but no one knows the number, and my cellphone is dead!

10. Enjoying the great outdoors: There's always things to see outside.

Have a great week!

Top Ten

Top Ten reasons I dislike the weather today:

1. I have to have the lights on.  What an energy waster!
2. The kids can't go outside.  All that pent up energy is now in my clean living room.
3. There's no sunshine.  I don't know what it is, but the sunshine makes everything better.
4. It's cold.  Come on, it's May.  We should be in shorts....wait a minute, this is Alberta....
5. It makes me feel like shopping.  That's never a good thing.
6. My children turn into little monsters.  Hello Treehouse!
7. I feel like baking.  With lots of sugar and butter and calories, all the things that taste good.
8. The dog turns into a barking thing.  Because she can't go outside, and if she does, she's no longer white....
9. All the chores start begging to be done.  When all I want to do is scrapbook.
10. I feel like napping all day.  Hey, that kinda goes with #6!

2. Norah Jones or the Spa Channel:  Soft soothing tunes keep me going.
3. CTMH Liquid Glass: I love this adhesive.  Love, love, love it!  It works on anything, except maybe plastic to plastic ( I tried that once, and it turned into a huge sticky peel apart mess - not recommended!)
4. My mom: I love to scrap with my mom, she's the best!
5. Ink: Every page needs ink (and my fingers too!)
6. Organized Chaos: You know how you always need every single item in your stash just to complete one page?

8. My paper piercer: I use it on every page, and sometimes not for holes!  Have you ever stuck something down in the wrong place....?

10. My husband: I love all the support I get from him for my habit!  I definitely need it!

That's all for this week's Top Ten, tune in next week!

Tell me...

Hey there everyone,

I'm getting ready for the next class schedule, and I want to know what you want to do! There are so many choices for classes, and I'd like to customize them to fit with what you like to scrap or craft. Some ideas that I had are a paper cupcake gift card holder, a phone rolodex for your counter, layout workshops, or altered items. Let me know what you think, by responding to the posting, or emailing me at erinandtrevor@shaw.ca. I look forward to hearing from you!

Okotoks Scrap Convention Make and Take

Hey there, as promised, here are the directions. I don't have pictures at the moment, but I will upload them in the next few days. If you need any further help, please email me at erinandtrevor@shaw.ca or call me at 403-939-1332.

1. Lay out your textured cardstock strips so that they are textured side up, and the piece that has three scoring lines on it is in the middle.
2. Apply adhesive to the two end pieces of your middle strip (they are 2"x4" between the edge and the score line).
3. Attach your other two pieces of cardstock, textured side up, so that the edges meet the scoring line, and you have a 2" overlap on the bottom.
4. Accordion fold your long strip on the scoring lines.
5. Adhere the first and last square to itself, forming a heavier piece to be the front and back cover of the flip book.
6. Turn the strip so that the textured side is against your work surface. Your piece should form a mountain shape with three folds facing up. If it isn't like that, re-fold your accordion the opposite direction.
7. Apply adhesive to the bottom only of the middle two sections. This forms the pockets for the tabs.
8. Fold your book up so that it makes a book, with three folds on one side, and four on the other. Now is when you attach the ribbon to be the spine.
9. Rub the ribbon firmly to make sure the adhesive is secure, and slowly peel away from the paper. Lay your ribbon down on the work surface so that the adhesive is up.
10. Place the book on the ribbon so that there is about 1/4" on either side of the edge of your book. Press firmly on the ribbon to form the spine for your book. Cut of the excess on the ends.
11. Now adhere your front cover piece, remember it's a different dimension than all the other pieces.
12. Apply adhesive to your other seven pages, including the back page, and adhere them to the pages in your book.
13. Do the same for the tabs, adhering the white cardstock to the patterned paper.
14. Attach the file tabs to the top of the pocket inserts, and place your flower on one of the tabs.
15. Add photos (mine were 3-1/4" square) and journaling. Decide on a title, if you want, and enjoy!!

If you have any more questions, or if you wish to receive a kit for this project, please email me at erinandtrevor@shaw.ca, or call me at 403-939-1332. Thanks for stopping by!
